Nestled amidst the historic Mughal-era architecture of Mehrauli, Delhi, the Ranna Gill store at Kila is a harmonious blend of the building’s period features with a modern contemporary aesthetic. This expanded retail space seamlessly integrates the charm of its historic setting with the refined elegance of the Ranna Gill brand. From its iconic inlay flooring to carefully curated displays, the store offers a luxurious and welcoming shopping experience while showcasing the brand’s signature style.

The project posed several unique challenges, starting with the need to preserve the architectural integrity of the historic building while expanding the existing store into an adjacent rear space. The lack of natural light in the newly integrated rear area required creative solutions to ensure the space remained well-lit and inviting. Balancing the integration of modern elements with the period architecture demanded thoughtful design choices. Additionally, creating a functional layout that guides customers intuitively through the store while ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable shopping experience was crucial.
To address the lighting challenge, the shopfront was opened up to establish a functional and visual connection between the front and rear spaces. Backlit onyx panels were introduced to create a glowing display for feature collections, while an artificial skylight ensured consistent and cohesive lighting throughout the store. The central placement of the point-of-sale counter served as a seamless link between the two areas, enhancing the overall flow and functionality.
The design incorporates a multilayered monochromatic concept, providing a subtle yet versatile backdrop that highlights the merchandise. Iconic inlay flooring, inspired by abstract weaving, intuitively guides shoppers through the space, while floating hangers and mirrored platforms elevate the visual experience. The L-shaped shopfront, combined with the picturesque courtyard tree, creates an inviting and serene entrance.
Strategically integrated lighting highlights key collections, elevating the store’s ambiance and enhancing the shopping experience. The informal spatial arrangement, complete with comfortable fitting rooms and linear seating, ensures that customers feel relaxed and at home while browsing. This thoughtful design preserves the heritage character of the space while reflecting the elegance and femininity of the Ranna Gill brand.
